I don’t get it…
I do not understand why people CHOOSE to eat a gluten free diet when they have no dietary reason for doing so.
I am a coeliac. I have no choice but to eat this way.
It confuses me why people, (mainly women who are dieting) or those on the advice of naturopath choose to cut gluten from their diet.
ONE - being advised to not eat gluten from a naturopath and ACTUALLY being diagnosed as a coeliac are 2 very different things.
TWO - Eating a gluten free diet is no better for you than eating whole wheat breads, cereals etc. Gluten free foods are made using rice, corn and potato flours and starches etc… They are VERY high in carbohydrate and essentially have no nutritional value. They lack the fibre that you get in gluten containing products.
THREE - Eating gluten free does not necessarily mean you doing something amazing for your body or stomach. For me I have no choice but it doesnt mean I am super healthy or fit or feel great. Did you know they lack of fibre and increase in starchy food in a gluten free diet means alot of coeliacs like myself end up with chronic constipation!
I personally believe being gluten free is not a CHOICE it is an OBLIGATION and for me its now a way of life. Why do it if you don’t need to????? I will never understand.
